Camp Jackson is located seven (7) miles north of Allendale just off Highway 278 and eight (8) miles south of Barnwell off Highway 278. From Allendale turn left on to Miller Creek Rd. This is just after Cave UMC on your right. From Barnwell turn right on to Miller Creek Rd. If you get to Cave UMC you have gone too far. (There is a large Camp Jackson sign at the intersection of HW 278 and Miller Creek Rd.) Once on Miller Creek take your first right on to Camp Jackson Rd. (There is a small Camp Jackson sign.) This is a dirt road. The camp is 1.6 miles down this road so don't give up as you drive through the woods. You will get there!

Rev. Jack Bailey is the United Methodist Disaster Coordinator for this area. You may call him at O - (803) 943-2222 or C - (803) 837-4220

We will be sleeping on bunk beds. Bring your own sleeping gear, e.g., pillows, sheets, flashlight, blankets or sleeping bag and EAR PLUGS! Also bring your own towels and shower footwear.

Each team should bring a kitchen captain who will be in charge of purchasing and preparing the food for the team.

Devotions and team attitude:

DUMC Fellowship Hall (2).JPG

To help us keep the right perspective our team will participate in morning and evening devotions. Each team member should be prepared to lead at least one devotion. This should NOT be a sermon. Just share a favorite piece of scripture and tell us why it is meaningful or significant to you; or relate some mission team work experience to a scripture; or present a reading that your find spiritually meaningful.  Bring reference material that may assist you with your devotion. Five to ten minutes is sufficient.                                            One favorite theme for evening devotions is “Where did you see Jesus in action today?”   Remember on this trip you and your teammates ARE the hands and feet of Jesus!                                                                           It is very important that all mission team members remain flexible, expect and accept changes, and be open to any opportunity to serve the Lord.   It is more important to serve the needs of the people than to simply get the job done.  In other words, sometimes listening is the most important thing you can do.

What to bring?

Team members should bring the following personal items and tools:

  • Hammer, Wonder Bar (flat bar), protective eye gear, utility knife, dust masks and gloves.
  • Work boots that will resist nail penetration are a must. Running shoes or other light-weight shoes are not adequate.
  • Long-sleeve work shirts or sweat shirts to keep fiberglass insulation off your arms
  • A hat is recommended for outside work.
  • Rain gear.
  • Sweat bands
  • Tool belt or nail apron
  • Air mattress or cot
  • Sleeping gear: pillow, sheets, flashlight, blankets or sleeping bag
  • Bath towels, toiletries, shower footwear
  • Ear plugs. These are an ESSENTIAL sleeping aide in dormitory conditions!
  • Bug repellant.  No-see-ums, sand fleas or mosquitoes can be a problem.
  • Snacks for the long drive and to share with the team while in Diamondhead.
  • We usually have the church trailer that has most of the power tools, etc. needed. However, if you have a favorite power tool or nail gun and have room, bring it. We have the compressor.

Have fun and remember to look for Jesus.
