Haiti Disaster Response
The January earthquake that struck Haiti has led us back to our roots. In searching for the best way to respond to that massive disaster, the Lord led us to partner with Wade McGuinn and Haiti Children Project, www.haitichildrenproject.org. HCP is an Advance Project of the United Methodist Church. They currently operate an orphanage for 29 kids in Jeremie and are building a new one to house up to 100. Jeremie is 140 miles west of Port au Prince and did not sustain any direct damage from the quake. However, when Port au Prince went down so did their supply chain. Within days after the quake the orphans literally had nothing to eat. We were instrumental in locating a private pilot to fly 3000 lbs of rice and beans directly into Jeremie. Since then there have been a dozen such flights delivering much needed food, medical supplies and volunteers to Haiti. Obviously, the long term needs are great. The requirement for supplies is even more urgent now that upwards of 40,000 “refugees” from Port au Prince have been sent to the Jeremie area. MSN will continue to handle the logistics of getting the supplies and volunteers into and out of the country.
In order to sustain the work we are doing locally and internationally we need help. Your prayers, time and funding would be most appreciated. We are looking for one-time donations but really need monthly partnerships of $20 to $100. Please prayerfully consider helping us in this time of great need.
