We will be working on Virginia and Floyd Fricke’s home in Waveland, MS.
Virginia and Floyd, like so many families, had their lives turned upside down by Katrina. They are retirees and were looking forward to living out their days in their newly remodeled home. Unfortunately, that all changed on August 29, 2005. Their home was destroyed and what Katrina didn’t take the looters did. They spent the first two nights after the storm in their van. Floyd has had several heart attacks and is confined to a wheelchair. Somehow they managed to spend the next three weeks in a tent before getting their FEMA trailer. They have been in that trailer for two long years now. However, they haven’t been there alone. Apparently, the stress of the storm caused one of their daughters to turn to drugs so they are raising their grandson Christen (18) and granddaughter Emily (10) - four people in a tiny FEMA trailer!
Virginia and Floyd have been trying valiantly to rebuild their home. Using FEMA grants and volunteer help they have managed to get the house in the dry. The rough plumbing and electrical has been done and a team from their local church, Shoreline Park Baptist, has been working to install insulation and sheetrock. They have some materials but are now out of money. Their efforts have been hampered by Floyd’s third heart attack and the theft of all their tools.
